Walter Moers kreierte mit dem Fantasy-Kontinent Zarmonien eine kreative, stimmungsvolle Welt, der man sich nur schwer verschließen kann. Als er dann „Die Stadt der Träumenden Bücher“ veröffentlichte, waren die Leser begeistert.
Bis dahin schrieb Moers zwar einen Zarmonien-Roman nach dem anderen, doch mit immer anderen Protagonisten. Mit Hildegunst von Mythenmetz schuf er jedoch in der „Stadt der Träumenden Bücher“ seinen beliebtesten Hauptprotagonisten, von dem er nun nicht mehr wegzukommen scheint.
Die Fortsetzung „Das Labyrinth der Träumenden Bücher“ handelt von Mythenmetz, der in die Stadt der Träumenden Bücher zurückkehrt und dort in einem Puppenspiel sein altes Abenteuer noch einmal erlebt und kommentiert. Erwähnenswert ist nur der Cliffhänger am Ende.
Nach der Ankündigung der Fortsetzung „Das Schloss der Träumenden Bücher“ und „Die Insel der Tausend Leuchttürme“, die beide auf ungewisse Zeit verschoben wurden, bekommen wir nun das Werk „Der Bücherdrache.“
Walter Moers scheint die Lust an Zarmonien und Hildegunst verloren zu haben, denn nach langer Wartezeit bleibt auch dieses Buch weit hinter seinen einstigen Qualitäten und die Länge erinnert an Auftakte anderer Moers-Geschichten.
Leider entschloss sich Moers die gesamte Handlung dieses Buches im Dialog zwischen Hildegunst 1 und 2 geschehen zu lassen, was viel von der Spannung mindert. Doch für das, was es ist, unterhält es gewohnt gut.
Moers-typisch finden wir zahlreiche kreative Ideen, schöne, wenn auch sehr eigene Spannungskurven, eine außergewöhnliche Rhetorik und eine bunte Welt, die kaum geheimnisvoller sein könnte.
Für jeden Zarmonien-Fan ist dieses Werk ein Muss. Man sollte nur wissen, auf was man sich einlässt und nicht mit zu vielen Erwartungen in die Welt eintauchen.
